Applying to Kindergarten is an exciting first step in your child’s elementary school journey. In NYC, children start kindergarten in the calendar year they turn five. For students born in 2020, entry to Kindergarten will begin in September 2025.

Beginning Wednesday, December 10th, 2024 children born in 2020 can apply to Kindergarten for the 2025-2026 school year.

The application deadline is Friday, January 24th, 2025. All families who apply by the deadline will receive a Kindergarten offer in April.

All families should participate in Kindergarten admissions, including children currently attending Pre-K, students with disabilities, English Language Learners, and students with accessibility needs.

MySchools.nyc includes an online directory tool that allows families to explore program choices, save programs of interest and submit their application, all on the same site.
